Review of Columbia Caged Combat 6: Unstoppable

By Nate Pebbles

The music of Nickleback echoes throughout the building as fans filtered into the Columbia National Guard Armory. The temperature in the building rises as steadily as the seats fill. Excitement continues to grow as the fighters can be seen kissing and hugging their loved ones. The ring girls take their turn walk around the massive warehouse, making eye contact with testosterone-filled boys. In the corner there is a local merch table with two men that look like they should be fighting tonight; they are pushing their new gear called Headshot.

An impromptu concession stand is selling beer, hotdogs, pizza, and drinks. At the end of the warehouse there is a massive cage dressed in gold and black. Suddenly, a guy with a voice mixed with local sound and a familiar deep voice announces that the time has come. You have just entered in the world of grassroots MMA.

In fact, the only fight to go the distance was the second fight of the night: Peter Ford vs. Ben Atchley. The fight started with Ben dominating the 1st round with his ground game. The second round was in the air as both fighters displayed varying styles. Ben wanted to wrestle while Peter found success striking. In the end, Peter wore out and Ben was able to maintain control for his first ever MMA win.
